Nearly a hundred scientists representing priority research areas, university core facilities research centers and support structures established under the Excellence Initiative – Research University program attended a February meeting to summarize the program’s implementation to date, and its mid-term evaluation.
In addition to representatives of the University authorities: Prof. Marcin Gruchała – Rector, Prof. Michał Markuszewski – Vice-Rector for Science, Prof. Edyta Szurowska – Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs, and Prof. Jacek Bigda – Acting Chancellor, leaders of the Priority Research Areas: Prof. Jacek Jassem, Prof. Krzysztof Narkiewicz and Prof. Ryszard Tomasz Smoleński and Prof. Tomasz Bączek – the Rector’s Representative for the IDUB Program, the conference brought together those actively involved in research teams (baskets), as well as various forms of support for scientists in their daily activities.
Prof. Michał Markuszewski talked about the past evaluation of science, as well as the directions of development related to the foregoing topic, in the context of the next evaluation. The agenda for the event included a summary of the mid-term evaluation of the Program conducted last year, which was presented by Prof. Tomasz Bączek.
Wojciech Kiedrowski – Deputy Chancellor for Digitization and Processes and Tadeusz Kifner – Project Manager, discussed the planned development stages of the Pomeranian Digital Medicine Centre. This initiative can very significantly increase opportunities regarding the conduct of research projects. On the other hand, Jakub Rusakow, Ph.D. – Coordinator of the Excellence of Scientific Publications Unit devoted his speech to the issue of open science, sharing his knowledge of open data repositories and the creation of data management plans with participants, among other things.
The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss topics related to relevant aspects of the recommendations of international experts that the University received after the mid-term evaluation of the Program. Discussions on international cooperation, publication strategies and human resource management issues were held in a workshop format, and the conclusions were presented on the following day of the event.
The meeting ended with a lecture by Danuta Rocławska, an expert working with the Medical University of Gdansk, who focused on topics related to the energy and work motivation in scientific teams, also in terms of the role of their leaders.
