Value-Based Health Care (VBHC) Effectiveness Research Laboratory

Division of Community Nursing & Health Promotion

Faculty of Health Sciences with the Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine

ABOUT US

The aim of establishing the Laboratory is to conduct interdisciplinary research on the effectiveness and efficiency of value-based healthcare models, in line with international recommendations from the WHO, the OECD and the European Commission. It will integrate data on Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), Patient-Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) and cost-effectiveness analysis (HTAs, QALYs), as well as health care digitisation, to support the development of a sustainable health system.

Research activities

1. Evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of health services from patient, payer and system perspectives.

2. Modelling and implementation of Value-Based Health Care.

3. Implementation of nursing care effectiveness indicators (C-HOBIC, RNAO).

4. Standardisation and integration of data for research using semantic interoperability (ICNP®) in analytical systems.

5. Education of medical staff, especially advanced practice nurses (APNs).

Infrastructure

An Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) office with equipment (spirometer, pulse oximeter, ECG, scale, blood pressure monitor). Access to IT systems (ADPIECare, ONTOS), RNAO tools.

Planned research projects (2025-2028)

  • Care Transition in Advanced Practice Nursing – a VBHC pilot in Primary Health Care and hospitals
  • Evaluation of the implementation of a value-based care model for patients with COPD and CVD
  • Studies on PROMs/PREMs and quality of life among patients in an integrated care model
  • Research on digital maturity in nursing care
