CORE FACILITY ACTIVITIES

The activities of the Division of Preventive Medicine & Education involve several areas. The major one is research: design and implementation of epidemiological studies on chronic non-communicable diseases and their risk factors. The most important projects in this area carried out by the Department staff are (as leaders or co-implementers):

  • Polsenior 1 and Polsenior 2, – a series of two nationwide, cross-sectional studies on medical, social and economic aspects of aging in Poland,
  • NATPOL (1997,2002,2011) – a series of nationwide cross-sectional studies to assess the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in the national population,
  • IMPACT Poland – a study that helped explain the reasons of reduced mortality from ischemic heart disease in Poland between 1991 and 2005,
  • NOMED-AF – a nationwide cross-sectional study assessing the prevalence of atrial fibrillation (including latent),
  • EuroHeart II project – a modeling study Financed by the European Commission, to assess the potential of structural population-based interventions to extend the lives of European residents,
  • UK- China Health And Social Challenges Ageing Project: present and future burden of dementia, and policy responses (UKCHASCAP) – a study financed by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) – to assess the prevalence of dementia in the United Kingdom and China, and develop the most effective preventive interventions using epidemiological modeling methods, * NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC), a global scientific network (leader: Imperial College London) collecting data on the prevalence of non-communicable disease risk factors worldwide,
  • SOPKARD – a service and research project aimed at reduction of cardiovascular risk of residents of Sopot,
  • WOBASZ (I and II) – Multicentre National Health Examination
  • MOLTEST KARDIO+,
  • “Marathon” study,
  • “National Program for Equalizing Access to Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases POLKARD 2017-2020”.

During our research projects we cooperated with numerous facilities, not only in the country, but also abroad. Thanks to our employees, we have been able to establish cooperation with numerous institutions:

  • NIZP-PZH in Warsaw, Department of the Centre for Population Health Monitoring and Analysis of Population Health
  • University Hospital in Kraków – Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University – Department of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics
  • Medical University of Warsaw, Department of Cardiology
  • Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin
  • University of Liverpool, Department of Public Health and Policy
  • Silesian Center for Heart Diseases
  • Duke Clinical Research Institute, Department of Biostatistics
  • Institute of Epidemiology & Health, University College London
  • Collaborating Centre on NCD Surveillance and Epidemiology at Imperial College London
  • Chinese Academy of Medical Science
  • Guangzhou Medical University
  • School of Public Health, Sun Yat-Sen University
  • ...and many others.

The Core Facility opportunities allow us to offer services to employees, doctoral students, and students in terms of:

  • preparation of assumptions and conditions of the random sample of the epidemiological study, preparation of relevant applications to the institutions providing data,
  • preparation of survey questionnaires and their testing under in terms of feasibility,
  • preparation of field study assumptions with feasibility assessment,
  • interviews using the telephone method,
  • creating databases in dedicated database systems to collect data obtained from the survey (eCRF),
  • database management – linking databases, maintaining database quality, cleaning data, and preparing data for analysis,
  • the selection of appropriate statistical tools and the creation of a description of the methodology used in the analyses,
  • use of a complex sampling scheme and post-stratification in population-based studies,
  • preparation of statistical reports together with hypothesis testing and their interpretation (e.g. descriptive statistics, evaluation of data distribution, comparative analyses, significance tests, regression and correlation analysis),
  • presentation of survey results in the form of tables or charts,
  • organization and supervision of on-site and on-line trainings for project implementers,
  • organization and supervision of conferences and webinars with project results
  • consulting on the development of epidemiological models

Our experienced team will try to support you at every step of the preparation, implementation, as well as analysis of the conducted research.

In addition, we would also like to invite you to cooperate in creating medical simulations, preparation and training in advanced resuscitation, health prevention and hygiene classes for children and adolescents, production of didactic and instructional films.
