Summary of the Team V workshop

67 people took part in a webinar entitled “In vivo research at GUMed – let’s get to know each other!” organised under Priority Research Area 3 by Team V (In vivo studies on the mechanism of disease and therapy) under the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” program. The meeting was held on October 20, 2021, via Clickmeeting. The invitation to participate was addressed to scientists of the Medical University of Gdańsk, the University of Gdańsk, and the Gdańsk University of Technology.

During the meeting, participants had the opportunity to learn about the activities of the teams included in Basket V. First, Prof. Ryszard Tomasz Smoleński, POB3 leader, said a few words about the role of in vivo research in the development of medicine and science. Then, Marta Tomczyk Ph.D. from the Department of Biochemistry talked about the use of animal models in the study of the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease, while presenting the research methods available in the unit.

Ryszard Milczarek Ph.D., a representative of the Department of Pharmaceutical Biochemistry, discussed the legal aspects of working with animals, while Dr. Habil. Patrycja Koszalka from the Division of Cell Biology and Immunology explained what GMO and GMM are and how they are used in scientific research. The activity of the Tri-City University Animal House – Research Service Centre (TAZD) was presented by the Vet. Grażyna Peszyńska-Sularz, Director of the unit, presented TAZD as a meeting place for science and business.
