The next scientific seminar in the series …where discovery science meets clinical medicine will take place on Wednesday, February 25, at 2:30 PM, in the Prof. Zdzisław Kieturakis Auditorium at the Invasive Medicine Centre, UCK.
The seminar will feature a lecture entitled: When genes leave their mark: from IgA nephropathy to AKI and other complications after cardiac surgery.
The speakers will be:
- Izabella Kuźmiuk-Glembin, Ph.D., Department of Nephrology, Transplantology and Internal Diseases
- dr habil. Maciej Kowalik, Division of Anaesthesiology & Intensive Care.
The lecture examines the role of genetic predisposition in the pathogenesis of kidney diseases, from IgA nephropathy to susceptibility to acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery. It emphasizes the clinical utility of genetic markers in elucidating disease mechanisms and improving risk stratification and patient outcomes. Furthermore, it discusses other postoperative complications after cardiac surgery and the genetic determinants contributing to their risk.
The seminar will be conducted in English. Following the meeting, participants are invited to a refreshment reception, providing an excellent opportunity for networking and discussions with researchers interested in scientific collaboration.
The seminar series was initiated by Dr hab. Aleksandra Rutkowska from the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology. The host of the event will be Prof. Krzysztof Narkiewicz, Head of the Department of Hypertension and Diabetology, GUMed.
