The second edition of the Merry Open Science, FarU! seminar was held on December 10 at the Olgierd Narkiewicz Auditorium Primum in the Atheneum Gedanense Novum at the Medical University of Gdańsk.
The seminar was organized by the Library of the Medical University of Gdańsk in cooperation with the MUG Museum, the Department of Pharmacognosy and the Department of Applied Pharmacy.
This recurring event was once again an excellent forum for sharing experiences, presenting activities undertaken for open science and discussing the future. Both librarians from all three universities that make up FarU, as well as the invited guests, shared their insights on the development of open learning and ideas on how to put the idea into practice.
On behalf of the Rector of MUG, Prof. Michał Markuszewski, the attendees were greeted by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine – Prof. Maria Bieniaszewska, and on behalf of the Main Library Medical University of Gdańsk Director Katarzyna Falow, who was absent due to fortuitous reasons, Deputy Director Agnieszka Milewska invited the guests to celebrate together.
Prof. Tomasz Bączek, Head of the IDUB Office of the Medical University of Gdańsk, showed how open research data can be used in practice. Valentina Pasquale, Ph.D. of the Instituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Genoa talked about the activities of the Italian data steward community. Anna Abramowska, Regional Sales Manager from EBSCO, the event’s sponsor, presented the company’s offers supporting open science, and Paulina Milewska, Customer Success Manager from Elsevier, offered a global perspective on the publishing openness of all the universities that make up FarU.
During the second session, librarians took the floor – Piotr Krajewski, Ph.D. talked about the data steward training program implemented at the Gdansk University of Technology, Agnieszka Kranich-Lamczyk, Eliza Gościniak and Agnieszka Wasilewska from the Library of the University of Gdańsk presented the dilemmas of a scientist on opening research data in an unusual form, and Jakub Rusakow, Ph.D. talked about plans to implement a new tool for creating data management plans at Medical University of Gdańsk.
The seminar was also a perfect opportunity to meet and integrate the staff of all the libraries from the Daniel Fahrenheit Association of Universities in Gdańsk, The organizers prepared surprises for the participants, such as a visit to the MUG Museum and a lesson in composing tea blends. This was of course fostered by the pre-Christmas atmosphere.
The event was held under the patronage of the Director of the Daniel Fahrenheit Association of Universities in Gdańsk.
