Meeting on the prevention of pancreatic cancer

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, therefore, the THE FIRST MEETING ON THE PREVENTION OF PANCREATIC CANCER prophylaxis will be held on November 21 at the Medical University of Gdańsk in Prof. Olgierd Narkiewicz Primum Auditorium. The event is under the patronage of the Rector of the MUG Prof. Marcin Gruchała and the institutional patronage of the University.

As part of the meeting, Prof. Christian Pilarsky from the Department of Surgery at the University Hospital Erlangen in Germany will deliver a lecture entitled Pancreatic cancer: new opportunities in diagnosis and treatment at 10:00 am. Professor Pilarsky is an expert in the field of research on genetic markers determining the risk of developing pancreatic cancer and a leader of the international PRECODE project, of which the Medical University of Gdańsk is a partner. Together with researchers from our University, the Professor’s team has developed a 3D model – of pancreatic cancer organoids derived from a patient’s tumor tissue. Our Ph.D. student Shaoshan Mai, M.D., under the PRECODE grant, is pursuing her dissertation Crosstalk between pancreatic cancer and blood platelets. The effect of nano drugs under the supervision of Prof. Iwona Inkielewicz-Stępniak, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Pathophysiology at the MUG, focusing on developing an effective therapy for pancreatic cancer, which is one of the most promising cancers.

Later in the event, a lecture entitled Is Every Pancreatic Disease a Pancreatic Cancer? will be presented at noon, where Prof. Stanislaw Hać oDivision of General, Endocrine and Transplant Surgery at the MUG will answer the most frequently asked questions about pancreatic cancer and diseases.

In addition, it is possible to participate in the discussion at information desks prepared by students of the Scientific Circle at the Department of Pharmaceutical Pathophysiology, M.Sc. and Ph.D. students of the MUG. They will be available in the lobby of the Atheneum Gedanense Novum (AGN) and the Centre for Invasive Medicine (CMI) from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Participation in the meeting is free of charge. However, it requires prior registration through the registration form. The event will be held stationary. Online participation will also be possible. After registering via the form, a link will be sent to stream the lecture via Zoom. A detailed program is available below.
